Diamante Golf Club Dunes Course

One of the more interesting natural features at the tip of Baja is the difference between the weather on the Pacific vs. the Sea of Cortez side of the peninsula. The famous Los Arcos, a stunning rock outcropping that marks the entry to Cabo San Lucas harbor, also serves as the invisible boundary between the two bodies of water.

As you move up the Pacific coast, winds and waves pick up considerably. It creates a landscape of enormous dunes that provided designer Davis Love III with an opportunity to bring a Scottish influence to his Diamante Dunes course.

Make no mistake, this is not St. Andrews in Mexico. There are significant elevation changes, split fairways, tiered greens and a host of other quirks that distinguish it from traditional links golf. Make sure to check your balance as well, as the wind is nothing to scoff at.

The wind at Diamante, however, is on par with the gustiest Scottish links. It’s not unheard of to see flagsticks bending under gusts that can routinely reach 40 mph.

Every shot at Diamante must take into account the ever-present breeze. Coupled with the giant dunes, wild elevation changes, and diabolical layout, Diamante is unlike any other course you’ve played.
