Bryson DeChambeau is an American jumping the pond this week. He’s likely already been handsomely paid for his appearance, but he’s got the chops to earn a hefty chunk of the purse as well.

He finished T18 as an amateur with four sub-par rounds (70-79-68-69) at the 2016 Dubai Desert Classic and has also frequented the HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship a few times, so he’s no stranger to desert golf in the Middle East. Since then, he’s transformed himself into a top-five player in the world.

DeChambeau won four times on the PGA Tour in 2018 and is already a five-time career winner by age 25.

He finished above average in the main strokes gained categories last season on the PGA Tour including 11th tee to green and 32nd putting. He’s a calculated, yet aggressive player who finished seventh in birdies and sixth in par-6 scoring.

Things didn’t go well the last time DeChambeau tried to close out a European Tour event last year at the Porsche European Open (T13), but he’s since turned things around drastically.

DeChambeau won three times afterward, including twice in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He picked up in 2019 where he left off by posting seventh and T10 on the Hawaii swing. With a week off to prepare for the long plane trip, DeChambeau should be primed to contend this week.
