Tommy Fleetwood has won in the UAE before, but he’s gunning for his first Dubai Desert Classic win. The Englishman has had a couple nice finishes at this event before, going T10 in 2013 and T6 (69-69-66-68) last year a week after a win in Abu Dhabi.

The 28-year-old is looking to build off last week’s T42 in Abu Dhabi where he shook off some rust in his first start of 2019.

“It’s funny because last year I felt like I played awful around here and it’s my best result ever on the golf course,” Fleetwood said in his pre-tournament press conference. “I feel like my game’s much better than last week, just in practice that I’ve had. I came here on Sunday to do some work on my putting, which clearly needed some work and that’s getting better.”

Fleetwood appears one of the safest picks this week. He’s made his last nine 36-hole cuts and hasn’t finished worse than last week’s T42 in his last 15 events dating to July.

A pure ball striker like him sets up well for Emirates GC. He was third on the European Tour last season in strokes gained tee to green and first in greens in regulation. Even with a poor putting week, Fleetwood seems like a lock for a top-10 this week.
