There isn’t a single person out there that thinks their putting couldn’t improve. Yes, you may have had a round where you hit every putt. You’ve also had one where you missed a lot of easy ones. In this edition of golf tips, we look at drills to improve your putting game.

One of the first articles i wrote was about the importance of putting. It doesn’t matter if you are a tour pro, or someone who gets out there a couple times a year and shoots 140. Heck, even if you stop counting on each hole and just give yourself a ten every time, we all can strive to become better putters. Putting is one of those golf tips you should always be searching for.

The baseline for practicing is the same as it is for practicing anything. You just need to get out there and do it. Heading to the green before (or even after) your round for even five minutes is going to help your game. That’s not really a drill though, and it’s only going to help you get a feel for the greens that day, and maybe how you’re striking the ball.

It’s still important to do that before every round if you have time to do it, which we all should. That isn’t what we are here to talk about today though, as it isn’t really a drill. In this article you are going to find five drills you can do that are going to help you with most of the aspects of your putting game.

An area that is incredibly important is confidence. If you are confident in your putts, they have a higher chance of going in. It may sound silly, but telling yourself before each putt that it is going to be a good putt, or that it is going to go in is going to make a big difference. Rolando Blackman best said it in the 1987 NBA all-star game. “Confidence baby, confidence” (you can see it at around the 1:39 mark.

From short putts, to putts with something on the line, to figuring out a good way to hit lag putts, there are drills for all of them. Some of them you can do by yourself, some are more fun with other people, and one of them is much more enjoyable if you turn it into a game.

Face it, everyone wants to be a better putter. Let’s knock the rust off that putter and head to the practice green. Here are some drills that you can use to improve your putting game.
