For this drill, you are going to need a partner. You will take turns putting, and on every miss, you need to move the ball away from the hole by the length of your putter. Hence not wanting a belly putter, or one of the broom style putters that some people use. If you do have one, just set a distance of three feet for moving the ball back each time.

The way I’ve always had my golfers play this game is to play for three rounds. You keep score the entire time, and rotate picking the distance and spot you are playing from. Usually in the 10 foot, 20 foot, and 25-30 foot range. Lag putting is still going to be important here. If you knock that long putt to within a foot or two, you are going to feel alright knowing you have a four or five footer. You miss by seven or eight feet? Well now you have a ten+ footer staring you down, that you know can turn into a five footer again if you miss.

If you struggle with short putting, this is going to break you for a little bit. Plenty of my newer golfers or poor putters get frustrated with this drill before reaping the benefits. You aren’t going to make every four footer that you see during a round. Practicing this drill, sometimes over and over depending on how many of those you miss during a drill, is going to help cut down on your short two putts, and also on your intermediate three putts.
