Tony Finau is one of the most consistent players in the game, say what you want about his lack of more PGA Tour wins. The guy is a walking top-10 and has shown that his bombing style can get it done at all types of layouts.

So, it’s kind of stunning to take a glimpse at Finau’s career results at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He’s played TPC Scottsdale every year since 2015, going T22-MC-MC-MC.

The bright side? He only missed the weekend by three shots in ‘16, two in ‘17 and one in ‘18. So he should at least make the cut on the number this time, right?

Finau cracked the top 10 in the world for the first time in his career recently and comes to Arizona in solid form.

The 29-year-old closed 2018 with top-20s in seven of his last events (T36 the outlier). Finau waited until last week’s Farmers Insurance Open to break out the clubs in 2019. He didn’t look too rusty as he was under par all four rounds (69-69-69-70) en route to a T13 at the tough Torrey Pines. He bombed and gouged his way to a solid finish but couldn’t give him enough chances to get by a tough putting week.

With more room to breathe from tee to green and a jovial tournament environment that befits the fun-loving Finau, I like him to post at least one round of 66 or lower and be in the mix for his long-awaited second Tour win.
