Saudi International: Power ranking the top 10 at Royal Greens
Matt Wallace won the non-Bryson DeChambeau division last week at the Dubai Desert Classic. The 28-year-old Englishman fired 70-64-69-68 to reach 15-under and solo second against a quality field in the UAE.
He was able to gain some ground on the field off the tee by finishing 30th in driving accuracy and 16th in distance.
“Got the new Ping driver in the bag and it’s doing me wonders. Swing speed and ball speed’s gone up. Yeah, I feel comfortable with where I’m at,” Wallace said. “The swing is just not quite there. I knew it’s been coming. We’ll go again next week.”
Playing his third full season on the European Tour, Wallace is already a four-time winner. He arguably does not have a signature win, though, but hoisting the Saudi International trophy would change that.
Wallace also played well a couple weeks ago in Abu Dhabi (T16) and late last season at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai (T2). Clearly he’s capable of playing well in desert climes.
Last season on the European Tour, Wallace ranked pretty well across the board. He was 29th in strokes gained off the tee, 33rd in SG around the green and 22nd in birdies made.
