Jason Day ought to think he’s due for a win at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am at some point. The 31-year-old Aussie has racked up five top-10s and two more top-20s at this event in nine starts. Day is 9-for-9 in cuts made, and he has just one truly poor finish outside the top-50.

He’s been on record saying he enjoys pro-am style tournaments whereas most players don’t due to the slow rounds. A slower, cerebral player like Day can take his time and calculate his way around this week’s three courses.

While Day finished solo sixth in his tournament debut in 2008, his best work has been in the past four years where he’s finished T4-T11-T5-T2 from 2015-2018.

Day gained over 3.5 strokes on the field in putting at Pebble Beach and has adapted well to poa annua greens over the years not only here, but at the Farmers Insurance Open near San Diego where he’s a two-time winner.

Day is not valuable just for course history this week. A T5 a couple weeks ago at Torrey Pines was his seventh straight top-25 dating back to the fall. This will be his third start of 2019 with a solo 13th at the Tournament of Champions to boot.

Day was fifth last season in strokes gained around the green and second in strokes gained putting. He was also 17th in par-5 scoring.
