AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am: Power ranking the top ten pros
Could Pebble Beach be what cures all that ails Jordan Spieth? It’s a strong possibility.
The 25-year-old is now at No. 21 in the world, his lowest position since 2013. His last top ten finish came back at the Open Championship in July. Before that? You have to go back to the Masters, almost 10 months ago. He says he’s close to getting back on track, but that has to start with one strong week.
After a missed cut at the Sony Open to kick off his 2019 (it was odd to see him miss out on the Tournament of Champions), Spieth showed signs of life with a T35 against a solid field at the Farmers Insurance Open, particularly in a 65 on the North course.
Some shaky ball striking kept him from remaining in contention, but he did show off some vintage short game and putting moments at Torrey Pines.
“It’s getting close. I’m still stuck and playing golf stuck is not fun, but when it clears up, you
know, I’m putting the ball beautifully and kind of the chipping wedge shots and the swing will
come back and the game will become easy to me again,” Spieth said after his third round at Torrey. “I think it’s coming soon.”
Whether you’re as confident in the state of Spieth’s game as he is, there’s no denying his resume at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Since debuting in 2013, Spieth’s rattled off T22-T4-T21-1-T20. One of his most dominating performances of his career came in his 2017 win where he fired 68-65-65-70 to win by four in a romp. In his two rounds hit 79.1 percent of his greens, gained 2.124 strokes on the field and hit 78.18 percent of his fairways.
