The PGA Tour goes south of the border for the second edition of the WGC-Mexico Championship.

We move from one of the most revered courses on the PGA Tour in Riviera last week to Club de Golf Chapultepec this week, which falls further down the list. The WGC-Mexico Championship is in its third running this year as is Chapultepec.

The 7,330-yard par-71 course isn’t too eye-catching and looks a lot like a regular muni. Many say there are far better courses in Mexico, but Chapultpec’s proximity to Mexico City and its size to host such an event trump other factors.

Chapultepec plays shorter than what it’s listed due to the course sitting at over 7,000 feet above sea level.

The course is very tree-lined and with the distance gained from the elevation, most guys will get by hitting irons and fairway metals off the tee.

Kikuyu predominates the course with poa annua greens.

Important stats this week are proximity from the fairway (and inside 175 yards), strokes gained around the green and par-5 scoring, to name a few.

This week’s power rankings will feature several players who competed at last week’s Genesis Open, but be careful riding with these guys as they just got off of a draining, rain-affected tournament.

The early weather forecast looks dry with temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

Expect the winning score to fall in the mid-teens under par. This is a 68-player field with no 36-hole cut. There are plenty of world ranking points and guaranteed dollars to dole out this week.

There isn’t a ton of course history to fall back on here this week, but it’s enough to begin to see who’s taking a liking to Chapultepec.

Here’s 10 I like to contend in the first World Golf Championship of 2019:
