Erik Van Rooyen is a 28 year old South African golfer currently playing on the European Tour

He attended the University of Minnesota from 2009-2013 where the change in weather was a bit challenging for Erik.

“It sucks going from 110 degrees and then come here, and it’s 10 below. It’s a little crazy, but you get used to it.”

Erik is best known for leading the 2018 Duty Free Irish Open after 54 holes. Eventually finishing T-4 after a final round 74 cost him the title.

In addition Van Rooyen briefly held the lead at the 2018 British Open after shooting an opening round 67 around the notoriously difficult Carnoustie.

Erik was voted the European Tour Graduate of the Year in 2018, the European Tour’s version of the rookie of the year.

In addition, Van Rooyen competed in the 2018 World Cup of Golf where he played alongside fellow South African Dylan Fritelli representing their nation.

He’s currently listed at 300/1 odds of winning this week
