Justin Thomas has been boom or bust at the Honda Classic, but few, if any, of his peers would turn down the results he’s gotten.

Missed cuts in 2015 and 2017 flank a T3 (69-69-68-69) in 2016 and a playoff win over Luke List in 2018 (67-72-65-68). He was unflappable on the weekend and did well to hold off a solid charge from List.

Thomas was still bombing away averaging over 320 yards off the tee at PGA National last year and hit over 65 percent of greens, which isn’t too shabby at a tough venue like this.

He’s among the Jupiter contingent teeing it up this week, which is a perk for a guy who’s set to make his sixth start of the year and third in as many weeks.

Thomas ranks first on Tour in strokes gained tee to green and is in the positive in all the main strokes gained stats.

He’s yet to win this year, but it’s hard to see that streak lasting too long.

JT’s solo ninth last week at the WGC-Mexico (66-73-74-62) ended positively on Sunday and was his fourth top-10 of 2019 and sixth top-20 in a row.

If you need someone who’s at least going to make the weekend for you, there might not be a safer bet. Thomas’ bad weeks still tend to land in the top 20 and he hasn’t missed the cut in a non-major since July 2017 at the Quicken Loans National.

“I’ve said for a while I’ve been really, really close, I feel like, to reel in quite a few wins not in a row, but just reeling some off,” Thomas said after the WGC-Mexico. “I’ve really, really been close this year, just haven’t been able to close the deal like I have the past couple years. All I can do is just keep playing the best that I can and it will happen.”
