Fleetwood has picked up a couple nice checks at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in his first two starts. He just needs to eliminate the one bad round that submarines his title chances. The Englishman posted T10 (78-66-70-68) in 2017 even after a disastrous start and T26 (69-76-69-70) last year.

Fleetwood hasn’t gotten off to a scorching start to 2019, but he’s also not far from getting back to the form that helped him to a win and 10 more top-10s worldwide in 2018.

The 28-year-old’s last start was a T19 at the WGC-Mexico Championship. It was his fifth top-50 in five starts this year and his third-top 30. You would have liked for him to contend for a tournament by now, but we’re talking dropping a shot or two a round and he’s turning these decent finishes into top-10s.

He enters on an 11-event made cut streak going back to last summer.

Fleetwood is one of the game’s top ball strikers and he was ninth last season in strokes gained tee to green. This season, he’s 35th on approaches from 175-200 yards and fourth from 200-plus.

These yardages could be common as he may opt to be conservative off the tee as he ranks 106th in driving accuracy and 100th in proximity from the rough.

Fleetwood’s strokes gained strength thus far is around the green where he’s 29th thanks in part to ranking third on sand saves.
