Justin Thomas is 4-for-4 making the weekend at the Players Championship. He overcame an opening 73 last year to finish with 70-68-66 to climb to T11. While he never was in contention, Thomas finished T3 in just his second appearance at TPC Sawgrass in 2016 thanks to a scorching final round (70-68-75-65).

The festive atmosphere at the Players seems to fit JT well.

“I love this place,” Thomas said in 2016. “I had a great chance to win last year and I just, something about this track and just the atmosphere, it’s a really fun tournament and I look forward to playing it every year.”

Thomas is seeking his first win since the WGC-Bridgestone in August, but he’s been in position several times since.

The 25-year-old has four top-10s in six starts in 2019. Thomas appeared to have the Genesis Open in his grasp before a surprising Sunday 75 to cede the tournament to JB Holmes.

He had his ‘worst” start of 2019 his last time out at the Honda Classic where he finished T30.

Thomas’ strokes gained stats are solid throughout the bag: first tee to green, 16th around the green, 79th putting, second tee to green and third overall.

He’s sixth in greens in regulation and tops in proximity from 125-150 yards. Thomas is also first on Tour in birdie average, making five per round. Even if he enters Sunday well back, this course can see players heat up to post a low score. Thomas fits that mold well.
