Some of us fancy ourselves as good around the green with a decent short game. We get up and down a fair amount, don’t hit many bad ones, and leave ourselves with some makeable putts. We might be the best golfers in our neighborhood.

In comparison to the people that we play with during our occasional rounds, we end up hitting a decent amount of good shots. Then there are the pros, the best golfers we have ever witnessed. Guys who make money doing this for a living. The ones who make it their job to be good at golf, and to have a great short game. They are so far above us regular Joe’s that we pale in comparison.

The best golfers are those who hit flop shots that fly over seemingly insurmountable objects and land within gimme range. The best golfers strike balls that check perfectly and have an unreal ability to spin the ball into a safe zone. Time and time again, you see the best golfers land shots in the one-inch safe area, watching the ball rolling with the perfect speed.

Deep rough below the hole? Not a problem for the short game legends. Us mere mortals are intimidated or scared when faced with a shot like this. To the short game masters, these are shots to be tamed, owned, and dominated.

When it comes down to it, there are certain players who stand above the rest. Some of them are some of the all-time greats, not just at their short games, but at the entirety of the game. Others managed to continue their careers by being maestro’s around the green. Before we start, a shout-out to the honorable mentions of Peter Thompson and Chi Chi Rodriguez, who both had incredible short games.

This article is mostly about how the best golfers of all-time play around the green. Putting is a part of your short game, but we are focusing mostly on the chips to get up and down. Here is our list of the ten greatest short games of all-time.
