Best Golfers #4: Tiger Woods

Sometimes when you are ranking the greatest of all-time, listening to the words of one of those greats is all it takes. Jack Nicklaus once said about Tiger Woods, “Tiger has always had an unbelievable short game, and I don’t think that’s going to leave him”.

As one of the greatest and most polarizing golfers of all time, Tiger has been at the forefront of the public’s eye since he came on Tour. Tiger turned Pro in 1996, won Rookie of the Year, and then won a little tournament held in Georgia in 1997. It goes by….. The Masters.

Tiger is incredible around the greens, with only a few better than him. His chipping has led to some incredible moments, ones that are etched in the memories of any who have watched golf since he turned Pro. Head to about 3:10 in this video to see an incredible shot by Tiger.

The that everyone remembers, and still gives me chills as I sit here and watch it, is the one from the 2005 Masters. Sitting just off the green on the 16th hole, Tiger had to play the ball WAY above the hole. Head to around 1:16, and you can see him hit. I included this one just to hear “In your LIFE have you ever seen anything like that”.

The better view comes here, and it provides the classic angle so many of us have seen before. Watching Tiger’s reaction moment by moment gives me goosebumps no matter how many times I view it.

Tiger is a golfer unlike any other. The number of insane shots he has hit from around the green are able to be viewed online more than anyone else in history, save for maybe Lefty. His incredible ability to hit it close is what places him so high on our list of greatest short games ever.
