Valspar Championship: Power ranking the top 10 at Innisbrook
We’re all still scratching our head about Jon Rahm’s fatal decision to go for the green on the 11th Sunday at the Players. It sent him plummeting down the leaderboard, but it’s worth remembering he was tied for the lead at this time.
A 76 was disappointing, but he largely kept his emotions under wraps. I envision him getting back on the horse this week against a weaker field.
“It is what it is, it’s golf,” Rahm said. “At least I’m proud of the way I handled myself, old Jon would have lost it.”
The 24-year-old Spaniard has been playing well all year, too.
He’s 5-for-5 in cuts made with five top-10s, a T12 at the Players, and a T45 at the WGC-Mexico. Rahm also won the Hero World Challenge in December and hasn’t missed the weekend since the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
This will be Rahm’s debut at the Valspar Championship. He should be fairly rested after skipping the first two legs of the Florida Swing.
Rahm is second on Tour in strokes gained off the tee and is relatively accurate for a bomber. He’s a modest 59th in SG approaching the green and 74th in SG putting.
He is seventh in proximity from 200-225 yards.
