PGA Tour: Choosing a Favorite Golfer to Start Rooting for
Golf is a game unlike any other. You normally don’t have a set opponent, and there aren’t teams involved during the PGA Tour season. That’s why when you are trying to find a favorite golfer, it can be tough to figure out who to root for.
Some PGA Tour fans have one favorite golfer. Someone they ride with through thick or thin, sort of the way you would with a team in a different sport. It can make for a simpler way of watching, as you only need to focus on one player, although you may be doing so in a “die-hard” manner.
Others don’t even have a player that stands out. They watch just because they enjoy the game of golf. You turn on the TV, watch some golf just to watch the sport itself, and that’s the end of it. It might not be for everyone, but there’s nothing wrong with just enjoying good golf regardless of who is playing it.
For most PGA Tour fans, we have favorite golfers. Emphasis on plural. In a sport like golf, that is totally fine. There are so many people playing every week, and one of the players you root for might not even be playing. That’s why it’s good to have a handful of players that you root for.
What happens if you can’t quite figure out who to root for though? There are hundreds of pro golfers on tour. Do you pick the favorite? Maybe that isn’t your style. Is it the dark horse? Someone with such small odds of winning a tournament, that your winnings would be enough to cover your expenses of a trip to Vegas to make a bet, and still have some left over.
Or do you like the middle of the road players. The ones who pop up on the leaderboards fairly often, often enough that you recognize the name, or think about where they are at on a leaderboard while a tournament is going on.
Maybe you are looking for a golfer or two from each section to have a nice group of golfers to root for. That’s why I am here today. To help you figure out who to root for. By then end of this, you will have a couple guys off of the PGA Tour that will hold your rooting interest whenever they play. For simplicity sake, there will be a World Golf Ranking (applicable to time of posting) after each golfer when they are named. Let’s get down to it.
