Even without a win to his credit, Sungjae Im looks to have the inside track to PGA Tour Player of the Year. The 21-year-old from South Korea just picked up his fifth top-10 and ninth top-20 in 17 starts in 2018-19.
Im couldn’t go low on Sunday to contend to win last week at the alternate field event in the Dominican Republic, but rounds of 67-67-69-71 are hard to argue.
The man is a machine as he’s getting ready to play his sixth week in a row. Why wouldn’t you want to keep it going when you have a T3 at Bay Hill and a T4 at the Valspar in that stretch.
Im ranks top-40 in all strokes gained categories except for putting, which even there he’s still a positive at .021 (107th). He’s 22nd in SG off the tee and 18th in par-5 scoring.
This will be his Texas Open debut.
This is his last chance at trying to qualify for Augusta and he needs a win to do it. He could really do some damage at the Masters, so for his sake it’d be cool to see him pull it off this week.
