Jon Rahm played his way into the second to last group on Sunday in just his second trip to Magnolia Lane last year.
Rahm battled back from a 75 on Thursday to make the cut with a 68. The Spaniard was only getting started.
He tied Saturday’s low round (65) and followed with a 69 to finish solo fourth and four back.
That was his sixth major start and easily his best result. It set the stage for a T4 at the PGA Championship a few months later.
Rahm finished T27 in his debut in 2017.
"“I felt really comfortable. I loved the situation, I loved that hunt,” Rahm said on Sunday in 2018. “Hopefully, next time I go into the back nine on a Major I’m the one in the lead and get to experience that. But hopefully I have proved to myself that I learn fast and I keep learning and learning. I learned from last year’s mistakes and I always try to learn from my mistakes, so hopefully next year I’ll have a good showing here.”"
Rahm last won at the Hero World Challenge in December and in 2019 has six top-10s in nine starts. He also was T12 at the Players. He’s made his last seven cuts worldwide
The 24-year-old is positive in the main strokes gained categories including second off the tee where he’s gaining exactly a stroke on the field per round.
Rahm is 23rd in par-5 scoring and fourth from 200-225 yards. If he can avoid some of Augusta’s pitfalls and keep his emotions in check, he could become the second Spaniard to win in three years.
