Masters Tournament: Ranking the 2019 field’s best of the last decade
By Bill Felber
6: Adam Scott, -3.05
His 2013 championship highlights Scott’s record at Augusta. But that’s only his personal best: He tied Jason Day for second, two strokes behind Charl Schwartzel, in 2011, tied for eighth in 2012, and was ninth in 2017.
His 2011 and 2012 showings prepared Scott well for his 2013 title run. Three strokes behind Jason Day after two rounds, he shot 69 on Saturday to move within a stroke of co-leaders Angel Cabrera and Brent Snedeker beginning the final round.
That final round was contested in a cold, steady shower that tested the composure of all the competitors. Scott trailed Cabrera by three at the turn, but birdies at both 13 and 15 enabled him to tie for the lead coming to the final hole. On that final hole, Scott sank a 25-foot birdie putt to take the lead, only to watch Cabrera, one group behind him, also birdie, setting up a playoff.
On the second playoff hole, Scott ran home another lengthy birdie putt, this time a 15-footer, for the victory.
Since missing the cut in 2009, Scott has recorded six top 20 finishes at the Masters, including his 2013 victory and his 2011 runner-up. In his 2014 title defense, Scott tied for 14th.
