Ian Poulter’s performance at the Masters was pretty emblematic of his 2019. Very solid golf without being the main story. He finished T12 (68-71-68-73) last week for another high finish without a win.

That’s not a knock on the 43-year-old as he’s shown great consistency. That was his eighth top-25 of the year and a better Sunday could have netted him a fifth top-10. Still, T12 is good enough to get him into the 2020 Masters Field.

For now, his focus is on winning a plaid jacket. He owns plenty of plaid already, so a win here seems fitting.

Poulter’s getting closer as a T11 in 2017 (66-68-69-73) was his best RBC Heritage finish until he did a bit better for T7 in 2018 (69-64-67-75). He was the 54-hole leader last year but appeared to run out of gas as he had just won in Houston to qualify for the Masters in the two weeks leading in. Overall, he’s 8-for-8 playing the weekend at Hilton Head.

Poulter has been getting it done with his short game this season (seventh in strokes gained). That’s a useful skill this week when wind and small greens are a combo.

He’s also 16th in driving accuracy and 10th in GIR, so he’s not going to shoot himself out of it this week.

Poulter’s played in just two of the last four weeks so with more rest coming in than last year, I like him to have a shot to seal off a win this time around.
