RBC Heritage: Top 10 power rankings at Harbour Town
No matter how often he does it, Xander Schauffele has a way of sneaking up and cashing a big check. He’s a Tour Championship and WGC winner by age 25, yet he still flies under the radar.
Schauffele bounced back from an opening 73 last week at the Masters to finish in 65-70-68 for T2. He was also co-runner up at the 2018 Open Championship.
He showed a lot of poise after his pursuit of his first major fell just shy. It gave off the vibe of a player who knows more chances are on the way soon.
“I think this situation is very unique. I’m not one bit sad,” Schauffele said on Sunday. “I told my caddie on the last hole that we just proved to ourselves that we can win on this property, and you know, I started with a 73, so I was very behind the 8‑ball and clawed my way back.”
He ranks fourth on Tour in overall strokes gained and save for 73rd around the green, he’s top-30 elsewhere.
Schauffele’s well-rounded game helped him win this year’s Tournament of Champions to highlight three top-10s and seven top-25s.
He took two of the three weeks prior to Augusta off, so there’s a chance he’ll have enough in the tank to contend again.
Schauffele recorded 68-68-71-72 to finish T32 at his RBC Heritage debut in 2018.
