This week, the PGA Tour heads out to the Harbour Town Golf Links at Hilton Head Island for the RBC Heritage.

The RBC Heritage is never a crazy strong field, as it falls right after The Masters. With the interesting field available, i find myself thinking about the depth of competition, and of course, the dark horses.

Whenever I root, in any sport, there are always two ways that I go about it. There’s a part of me that wants to see the favorite win. Exerting their dominance over the competition, and showing why they deserved to be the Top Dog.

Most times, I root for the underdog. I don’t know if there’s some deep seeded reason behind it. Maybe it’s because I root for the Seattle Mariners. All I know is that I seem to enjoy rooting for the underdog, more than i do the favorite. Well, unless that man’s name is Eldrick. Then I want him to wipe the floor with everyone.

This week, Tiger Woods isn’t a participant at the RBC Heritage. This means that as I watch, I’m going to be rooting for some of the lesser known, long-shot, dark horse type players. Watching the best guys is definitely fun, but there is something special about rooting for someone that most people have already discounted before the tournament even starts.

With the tournament set to start tomorrow, I wanted to look at those long shots, and figure out a few of which I think have a good chance. Some of the dark horses that are worth watching this week at the RBC Heritage. If you want to know about the favorites, Mike Randleman did a great job in his weekly power rankings breaking down that side of it.

Keeping in tradition with the piece I wrote last week about dark horses at The Masters, these guys all come in at or worse than 45-1. I’m going to provide odds only as a point of reference to their dark horseness (dark horse-ability? dark horse-atude?). Anyway, here goes.
