Jason Day hasn’t played Quail Hollow often. When he does, things tend to go well.

The Aussie finished T9 in 2012 and won in 2018. He finished T9 at the 2017 PGA even with a 77 on the card on Saturday. That was his only score above 70 in 12 rounds that equate to a 69.5 scoring average.

Day and Adam Scott surprisingly missed the cut by one at last week’s Zurich Classic. He’s been pretty solid on his own ball, however. Day didn’t quite contend at the Masters but he still posted T5.

That was his fourth top-10, one of which came at Pebble Beach where he’ll be among the favorites at the U.S. Open this June.

Day is seventh on Tour in total strokes gained. That’s in large part to ranking fourth in SG putting and fifth in SG off the tee. His approach stats aren’t great, but he does rank 18th in GIR at over 70 percent.

In his win a year ago, Day was in the 60s all four rounds despite just hitting 56.94 percent GIR and 48.21 percent fairways. He crushed it over 325 yards off the tee and gained over two strokes on the field a day on the greens.

As long as his back is not a concern, Day has a great shot to contend and win this week.
