Wells Fargo Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Quail Hollow
Paul Casey didn’t have much of a track record around Quail Hollow prior to its renovation. He had just three Wells Fargo Championship appearances with a T41 in 2016 his only time playing the weekend.
The Englishman re-calibrated at the 2017 PGA where he posted T13 (69-70-74-71). Casey followed with a T5 last year (69-68-69-71). As the course became tougher post-renovation, so did Casey. He gained nearly a stroke and a half per round on the greens and hit 62.5 percent GIR which was a better mark than it looks.
“For some reason it just seems to be clicking now around this golf course,” Casey said in 2018. “Maybe the firm and fast, I like that. This is reminiscent of something like the small margin for error you get at something like Augusta National and I like that.”
In 2019, Casey defended his title at another tough venue at the Valspar Championship. He was also solo runner up at Pebble Beach and took T3 at the WGC-Mexico.
A missed cut recently at the Masters was surprising, but it’s hard to find too much else to nitpick from his results.
Casey is his usual strong ball striking self ranking 11th in SG tee to green. He’s eighth in fairways hit and 16th in proximity from 200-225 yards. He’s also 24th in proximity from the rough.
