Wells Fargo Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Quail Hollow
It wasn’t the Sunday Tony Finau was looking for in the final round at the Masters. A 72 dropped Finau to T5, but it still puts him back on track for 2019. The top-10 machine from the past two years (15 total) notched his first one of the year.
He’s still been cashing checks as he’s made five cuts in a row and owns five top-25s this year. The top 25 is right around where Finau lands at Quail Hollow.
His results here are T16 in 2015, T26 in 2016, T44 at the 2017 PGA and T21 a year ago (69-76-71-66).
Finau’s bomb and gouge style will be put to the test. His accuracy off the tee (134th on Tour) will be put to the test. He gained 1.399 strokes per round on the greens at the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship but didn’t have enough birdie looks hitting 41.07 percent fairways and 55.56 percent GIR.
“Fairways are a premium for sure this week,” Finau said in 2016. “But the golf course plays so different when it’s true bermuda like this. You’ve got to think about the grain more. More undulation in the greens. The putts downhill are really, really fast. So all those come into consideration when you’re playing on bermuda, true Bermuda.”
