Wells Fargo Championship: Dark Horse Candidates at Quail Hollow
Jhonattan Vegas (66-1)
If you are ever searching for Jhonattan Vegas online, it’s probably easier to type in J. Vegas. Jhonattan is a little difficult to type out, and I constantly find myself double checking the spelling.
For sanity sake, I’m calling him Jhonny Vegas. He has been money lately, performing quite well in six of the last seven tournaments. His only blip was a missed cut at the Genesis Open in the middle of February.
Other than that event, he was finished in the top 30 in all six events, with two top tens. He made a late run at The Players Championship, actually ending up T3.
Jhonny has been a monster off the tee this season, coming in at 23rd in average drive distance. His shot’s gained off the tee is even better, with his .679 ranking 9th. He isn’t too bad around the green either, ranking 32nd.
Putting and approaching the green has been a different story this year. He ranks 107th and 102nd, respectively. For him to make any sort of run this week at the Wells Fargo Championship, Jhonny Vegas is going to need to be on point with his approach shots, and roll the ball better on the green.
If he is able to do that combined with his regular strengths, Jhonny Vegas will be in prime position this weekend for a strong dark horse run.
