J.B. Holmes (80-1)

J.B. Holmes has shown flashes this year of playing great golf, none more so than his time at the Genesis Open. He actually took the win here, starting incredibly well with a 63. He followed that up with consistent golf the rest of the week, shooting 69-68-70 to come in at -14 for the week.

Since then? It has not been good for Holmes. He missed the next two cuts. Then he shot T71 at The Valero. A 80 on Sunday at The Masters dropped him all the way to T62.

Why do I believe in Holmes? Two reasons. I feel like with The PGA Championship coming up in two weeks, Holmes is veteran enough to focus in and make the cut this week to prepare for the upcoming Major.

The other reason is that he has had success at The Wells Fargo before. At Quail Hollow, Holmes took the win back in 2014. As he did at the Genesis earlier this year, he won with -14.

If he can improve on his putting, he can make a run. It’s easily the worst part of his game, as he comes in at 133rd in shots gained putting.

With the major coming up, and former course and tournament success in his back pocket, Holmes seems a little low in the odds. He seems like a great dark horse pick for this weeks Wells Fargo Championship.
