Cameron Champ (150-1)

Things haven’t been going well for Cameron Champ lately. Cut, Cut, W/D, Cut. I feel like this course is set up well for him, and could lead to him reverting back to the Cameron Champ that was playing lights out 5 months ago. Check out this stretch from October through January.

1st, T28, T10, 6th, T12, T11. That’s quite the run for a youngster on Tour. He’s shown the ability to score, score well, and win a tournament. Heading into the Wells Fargo Championship, Champ is a dark horse I want to keep an eye on.

The course is long, coming in at over 7500 yards. For the longest driver on Tour, it could be exactly what he needs to break out of his funk. Already 11th off the tee in shots gained (or strokes gained, whichever you prefer), Champ could gain a huge advantage here. His putting is strong as well, ranking 31st.

Approaching and around the green, he is the complete opposite of Zach Johnson. Where Johnson was 25th and 31st, Champ comes in ranked 139th and a miserable 212th, for a combined -.770 S/G.

If the irons and wedges are even decent this week, I like Champ to make a run. It’s a strong field, and tough to get past Day and Rory. As a monster off of the tee, I still like Champ’s chances.
