Keith Mitchell quietly had a solid rookie campaign on the PGA Tour in 2017-18. Four top-10s including a second and a third with only five missed cuts set the table for what was next.

The 27-year-old bomber put it all together to win the Honda Classic in March. He impressively held off hard charges by runners up Brooks Koepka (Sunday 66) and Rickie Fowler (67) by closing his tournament of 68-66-70 with a final round 67.

Mitchell rode that wave to a T6 next week at Bay Hill. He made his next two cuts, including a T43 in his first major at the Masters. After an MC at the RBC Heritage, Mitchell got back on the horse with a T8 (68-74-66-69) last week at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Now, he comes back to a place of past success. Mitchell fired 65-68-69-63 to post 19 under and tie for third at the 2018 Byron Nelson. That was while playing for the sixth week in a row.

This time he’s had two of the last six weeks off.

“I really enjoyed it. There’s a lot of different types or different styles of players that are at the top of the leaderboard,” Mitchell said in 2018 of Trinity Forest. “That shows a lot about the golf course. It doesn’t favor any one person. I think it’s a great test. It’s a great strategy for us. So the rain definitely made it play different today but, other than that, it was awesome.”

Mitchell hit 85.71% fairways and 90.28% GIR for the week. He putted fine, gaining a half stroke per round. He ranks 11th on Tour this season in strokes gained off the tee and will benefit from a wet course that can allow for more drivers.
