With the PGA Championship coming up this month, players are looking to hone their game with another major on the horizon. To do so, they head to Trinity Forest Golf Club to play the AT&T Byron Nelson. Let’s look at some of the dark horse candidates who could make a run.

Sticking near to the guidelines I have used it weeks past, the cutoff for a dark horse candidate will be odds worse than 45-1. That means 16 of the golfers in the Byron Nelson field do not qualify as a dark horse.

Last week turned out fairly well for those investing in some of the dark horses I provided. Vegas finished with a T8. Seamus Power finished T13. Holmes actually withdrew, unfortunately. Zach Johnson and Cameron Champ missed the cut, at +2 and +3, respectively.

Two top 15’s out of a group or five? Not too shabby. Let’s see if we can replicate some of that success. Heck, lets see if we can do a little better this time around.

The field may not be exceptionally strong this week, as some of the top players in the game are skipping the AT&T Byron Nelson, choosing to rest up for Bethpage and the PGA Championship next week.

All the players that did make their way to Trinity Forest Golf Club down in Texas are going to be as focused as ever. With a major a week away, they want their games in top form. Even though the talent may not be as high, the intensity will be.

It’s time to get down to it. Here are my dark horse candidates to provide some excitement, make the cut, and hopefully make some noise at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
