Time to look at the AT&T Byron Nelson Dark Horse Candidates
Ollie Schniederjans – 100/1
Ollie Schniederjans (definitely not typing that out every time) is hoping his strong three round finish at the Wells Fargo carries over throughout this week at The Byron Nelson through the PGA Championship next week.
He shot 69-68-70 over those three rounds. If he can ride that success onto a course that he hasn’t played professionally at (The Byron Nelson wasn’t at Trinity in 2017), I like Ollie as a dark horse.
Ollie is a monster off the tee. Well, at least distance wise. He ranks 8th in driving distance, hitting on over 310 yards. The accuracy is far behind, coming in at 212th in driving accuracy, which leads to a low number of greens-in-regulation, ranking 193rd.
He’s much better around the green. His sand save percentage is ranked in the top 75. Same with his SG around the green (69th, .127 SG) and his putting (62nd, .253 SG).
If Ollie can keep a few more balls in the fairway off the tee, his all-around strength in his short game should bode well for him, and lead to plenty of scoring opportunities. If he is bombing fairways early on, I like Schniederjans to make a run as a dark horse this week.
