Cody Gribble – 200/1

Gribble won the 2012 National Title at Texas, with Jordan Spieth as a teammate. Heading back to Texas for the Byron Nelson, Gribble looks to continue his recent strong play.

2019 started rough for Gribble, as he finished in the top 55 only once, ending up T40 at The Desert Classic in January. I don’t really count The Zurich, as it’s hard to glean too much from a team event. Although he did finish T37 with Joey Garber.

Last week was much better, as Gribble finished T31 at The Wells Fargo. 71-72-68-71 is a nice tournament to have, although he wasn’t able to card a second nice round to really jump up the leaderboard.

Gribble also played well at the event last year, shooting good rounds all week, turning in cards of 71-67-68-69. After all was said and done, he finished T32. Not too shabby.

To score well, there isn’t really one area that he can focus on to improve. His best SG area is putting, ranking 116th. To make a true run at the top of the leaderboard, Gribble is going to need to improve a little bit across each area. If he can start more accurate off the tee (192nd), it could translate to better situations and better scoring throughout the rest of his play.

After playing well last week, and knowing that he played well at the Byron Nelson last week, I can’t pass up Gribble as a worthy dark horse at 200-1.
