If you watched Xander Schauffele’s post-Masters press conference (I understand if you were a little tied up with the Tiger hoopla), you saw a young player who seems awfully confident in his game.

The 25-year-old finished T2 for his second runner up finish in just eight major starts. It was his fourth top-10 for a player who already owns a win at a WGC and the Tour Championship among his four career wins.

He won the Tournament of Champions to start the year and is 5-for-6 in cuts made. Schauffele owns seven top-25s.

Schauffele comes in well rested as his last start was four weeks ago at the RBC Heritage where he took T63 in what was his third event in four weeks.

This gives him plenty of time to get to know Bethpage Black, which he’ll see for the first time.

Schauffele ranks 13th on Tour in overall strokes gained and is 64th or better in all SG categories.

I don’t love his driving accuracy nor his overall rough proximity numbers, which both rank outside the top 100. He is, however, first from 150-175 out of the thick stuff. He’s also 18th in SG approach and is best from close range.

The San Diego State alum has seemed to have no problem taking on new courses and I expect him to further cement himself as a name to be reckoned with after another high finish at the PGA Championship.
