With 11 top-10s in majors and a T12 last month at the Masters, Matt Kuchar has to be thinking his time’s going to come eventually.

The 40-year-old doesn’t have an eternity to find his breakthrough, but he’s playing good enough golf in 2019 to be in the mix.

Kuch was a winner at the Sony Open in January and runner up at the WGC-Match Play and in his last start four weeks ago at the RBC Heritage.

Now rested after 11 tournaments to open the first third of the year, Kuchar is coming to a familiar venue in Bethpage Black.

He missed the cut at the 2002 U.S. Open (76-75), MC’d in 2009 (71-77), T38 at the 2012 Barclays (72-68-73-72) and T64 at the 2016 Barclays (72-72-76-69).

Kuchar ranks 14th in total strokes gained on Tour and is ninth in approach. He’s also eight in driving distance, which is huge to keep it out of Bethpage’s menacing rough.

Kuchar is also second in GIR and 20th in proximity from the rough. He’s 35th from 175-200 yards from the rough and 12th from 200-plus out of the rough.
