Could this be the demarcation point of Spieth’s re-ascendance? On a course that didn’t particularly suit his game, Spieth fired 69-66-72-71 at Bethpage Black to finish T3 at the PGA Championship.

"“I don’t feel like I overachieved. I felt like I made progress from where I was last week and I felt like — and I feel like I can go to a course next week that I’ve had success at, and is a way better fit for me I think than Bethpage,” Spieth said Sunday. “Bethpage, just when the rough is up this high, obviously I can’t pick a course that’s probably further away from it being for me. Having said that, and still feeling like I have work to do, I’m in a good place.”"

It was the three-time major champion’s best finish since solo third at the 2018 Masters. For all his supposed struggles, it still was his fifth made cut in a row and fourth top-30 in that span. And like he said, Spieth’s coming to a place of comfort here at Colonial. The Dallas native will be a fan favorite and has given the galleries good memories over the years.

Here are his results at the Charles Schwab Challenge playing every year since 2013: T7-T14-T2-1-T2-T32.

Spieth carded 67-66-65-65 (-17) to win by three in 2016.

He has just two over-par scores (none since 2015) in 24 rounds and is a cumulative 55-under.

Spieth is 11th this season on Tour in strokes gained putting. He’s particularly well versed in playing on Bentgrass.

The potential for a wet course doesn’t fit into Spieth’s MO considering he’s 198th in strokes gained off the tee, but he’s coming off a week of narrow fairways and won’t need to hit the big stick on every hole.
