Rickie Fowler played Colonial every year from 2010-14 while cashing checks from former tournament title sponsor Crowne Plaza. He took a break from this track until returning for a solid T14 (67-69-69-68) last year and was three shots outside the top five.

He’s 5-for-6 in cuts made with a T16 in 2011 and T5 in 2012 among the best results.

Fowler isn’t as aggressive a player as he was starting out on Tour, but he’s still 15th in birdie average. He threw a 2-iron in the bag last year at the Charles Schwab Challenge and will be content to lay back and make his hay on approach.

"“Trying to get it in the fairway as much as possible. That’s kind of our game plan, whether that’s getting to a spot that’s kind of the max. If not, there are some holes where that’s maybe laying back,” Fowler said in 2018. “Name of the game on this golf course: Get it in the short grass.”"

Fowler finished T36 (but first to greet Brooks Koepka!) last week at the PGA. It snapped a string of three straight high results: T17 Texas Open, T9 Masters, T4 Wells Fargo.

He continues to prove he’s one of the Tour’s most consistent players. Fowler’s made cut streak is up to 18 and he’s been in the top 40 every week since January. He won the Phoenix Open in February and was a Keith Mitchell clutch putt away from a playoff at the Honda Classic.

Fowler ranks 14th in total strokes gained (1.445) and is 10th in putting (.714).
