Charles Schwab Challenge 2019: Power ranking the top ten at Colonial
The Charles Schwab Challenge isn’t an annual staple on Paul Casey’s schedule, but maybe it should be. In five starts at Colonial, the Englishman’s finished 5-T13-MC-T43-T10.
In his last trip in 2017, Casey (69-66-68-73) was in the thick of contention until a sour final round.
He fits the mold of precise ball strikers who have fared well here.
"“It’s one of the reasons why I love this golf course, because you don’t have to — you can smash it round here, but you don’t have to. A lot of thinking goes on and positioning into the greens,” Casey said in 2017. “It’s just such a wonderful classic golf course, which is why myself and a lot of players love playing it. I’m usually great with the driver.”"
Casey enters off a T29 last week at the PGA Championship and should be pleased with his final round 69 which proved to be one of the better Sunday scores.
This year, he defended his title at the Valspar Championship and owns six worldwide top-10s including solo second at Pebble Beach.
Casey has had a tough season with the putter but is otherwise top-30 in strokes gained categories including 21st overall (1.264) and sixth tee to green (1.568).
He’s 13th in driving accuracy, 25th in greens in regulation and 35th in par-4 scoring.
