When I think about Kevin Kisner’s talents, a place like Colonial just meshes well. He’s just long enough most weeks on Tour, but now that most of the field will be hitting similar length approaches, the Charles Schwab Challenge is where the Kis can really shine.

He proved it with his win in 2017 on one of the tournament’s toughest weeks for scoring, carding 67-67-70-66 (-10) to edge Sean O’Hair, Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm by one. Only Adam Scott’s 9-over winning total in 2009 was higher this century.

With possible rain and storms in the forecast, maybe another challenging week will play into Kisner’s hands.

Either way, this is clearly a place he’s comfortable. After an MC in 2014, he’s since gone T5-T10-1-T52.

"“It’s definitely at the top of my list when I set a schedule, is Colonial. I love the golf course. It reminds me a ton of home. Really precision golf off the tee and into the greens,” Kisner said after his 2017 win. “I grew up on a course with small greens pushed up, and you got to hit your numbers and be in the right quadrant. That’s what Colonial is all about, and I just love being here.”"

Kisner made nine straight cuts in 2019 (10 in a row dating to 2018) prior to heading home early last week at a bad fit for him in Bethpage Black.

He was a winner at the WGC-Match Play. It was his only top-10 of the year, though he hasn’t been far off with eight top-30s.

Kisner ranks 44th on Tour in strokes gained putting (.341) and 29th in driving accuracy (67.47%).

He took three weeks off prior to the PGA, so he’ll be among the most rested among the pre-tournament contenders.
