Tell me if you’ve heard this before: Adam Scott would be in great shape if he could just get the putter going. He’s actually been good when the stakes are low as it’s tough to fake a 17th rank on Tour in strokes gained putting, but the nerves under pressure are still there. A T18 finish at Augusta was about the worst he could have done with how he was puring the ball.

The 38-year-old owns three top-10s in 2019, including a runner up at Torrey Pines, without a win in seven starts.

Scott’s traditionally had a picky schedule and will be rested going into this week as he’s only played twice since the Masters.

His last start was a T8 at the PGA Championship highlighted by a Friday 64.

Scott’s played the Memorial Tournament 11 times. He owns 10 made cuts and three top-fives with the last coming in 2014. He finished T35 (72-66-70-73) while hitting 73.61% GIR and 76.79% fairways. Strokes gained putting was -1.346 and -3.366 in the final round.

"“I like the fact it’s fairly generous off the tees here,” Scott said in 2017. “That’s nice for me. I don’t hit the most fairways on the PGA Tour, so I get a little bit more room. There is a premium hitting into the greens then, and that is one of my strong suits.”"

If the course plays soft this week like it could and the greens turn a little less treacherous, I like Scott to rocket up the leaderboard and become a dark horse pick for Pebble Beach in a couple weeks.
