Don’t look now, but Patrick Cantlay has top-10s in both majors this season. He briefly held the lead at Augusta before falling back to T9. He wasn’t in the mix at the PGA Championship, but Cantlay was among the best in the non-Brooks Koepka division to finish tied for third place.

He’s not a very outspoken guy, but the 27-year-old seemed pretty confident leaving Bethpage Black a couple weeks ago.

"“I feel like every week I show up extremely prepared and extremely ready to play well,” Cantlay said. “And I have been. I had a lot of nice finishes this year, and looking to get some Ws.”"

Those nice finishes Cantlay referred to in 2019 also include T9 at the Desert Classic, T15 at Riviera, T6 at the WGC-Mexico and T3 at the RBC Heritage. He’s missed just two cuts in nine starts and has been in the top 10 the last three times teeing it up.

Cantlay will make his third Memorial Tournament start. He got around Muirfield Village in a respectable 71-72-74-71 en route to a T35 in his 2017 debut.

Cantlay contended for all 72 holes in 2018 when he took solo fourth. He carded rounds of 68-69-66-71 to finish one out of a three-man playoff.

His stats this season show a player who doesn’t have a weak club in the bag. He’s fourth in total strokes gained with breakdowns of 15th off the tee, 14th approach, 21st around the green, 46th putting and fifth tee to green.

Cantlay is ninth in approach from 175-200, first in scrambling from 20-plus yards and first in par-4 scoring.
