Jim Furyk – 80/1

Jim Furyk is one of my all-time favorite golfers, and it does get a little tough to not just talk about him every week during this article. Luckily for me, he is a past winner, although it was way back in 2002.

It’s crazy that Furyk is still playing strong, even at 49. He seems to continue to make noise week in and week out, which is why I had to include him this week as one of the dark horses at Muirfield.

There has only been one event all year that has not been one of two outcomes for Furyk. In 14 events, he has missed the cut in five of them, and finished in the top 25 in eight of them. The other was a T-37 at The Genesis.

Furyk was playing quite strong last week at The Charles Schwab, but faltered a bit on Sunday, shooting a 73. He still finished T-13th, showing how well he played over the first three days.

The only thing that is hurting his game a bit so far this year is how he has played off the tee. Understandable, as a 49-year-old shouldn’t be able to keep up with the kids on tour. He is sitting 115th in SG of the tee, just barely in the positive at .004.

He makes up for it everywhere else though. 13th in SG on approach shots, 38th in SG around the green, and 59th in SG putting. If Furyk can hit a high amount of fairways, he should be able to capitalize with the strength of the rest of his game.
