Luke List – 80/1

List has a couple things going for him that helped catapult him onto my list of dark horses for this week. First and foremost, he is a monster off the tee. For those who think is doesn’t matter, who could forget this classic baseball commerical. For someone who grew up as a lanky pitcher who loved the Braves, it was right in my wheelhouse.

List is currently 2nd in driving distance this year, averaging 314.4 yards. If he is able to keep it in the fairway (or even in decent rough), he instantly gains an advantage on the field. It translates to SG as well, being that he is 11th off the tee.

Putting, as with Byeong Hun An, is his downfall. List is nearly as bad, sitting 154th in SG putting. Drive for Show, and Putt for Dough. If he can make some putts, its hard to beat the combo of a guy going long off the tee and sinking his putts.

List had a shot to dethrone Koepka at The PGA Championship last week, although it would’ve taken a pretty strong Sunday to do so. With the wind affecting everyone, he was unable to do so, and fired his only round in the 70’s, shooting a 74 to finish all alone at -1 in 6th place.

With four top tens, and showing that he does have the ability to hang on and play near the big boys, I like Luke List to make a run again this week, playing off the momentum he built at Bethpage. That’s why he makes my list of dark horses this week.
