Adam Schenk – 250/1

Adam Schenk takes the final place on my list of dark horses for The Memorial. He has never played there before, as this is only his second year on The PGA Tour.

Once you get down to this part of the odds for a tournament, there are plenty of reasons why you wouldn’t want to pick one of them to win. Whether it is a recent bad run of golf, a new golfer, unfamiliarity with the course, or a strong field.

They are down here for a reason, but that doesn’t mean that they still can’t make a run at it. It has happened a couple times this year already with golfers with equal to or lower odds than 200/1. Who’s to say it couldn’t happen for Schenk?

He played pretty well just a couple weeks ago at the Wells Fargo, shooting 67-74-67-70 to end up T-13th. A month before that, he played well at The Valero, finishing T-7th after shooting 70-66-70-70.

For someone with such low odds, I can only see one aspect of his game that could hurt his scoring this week. His SG around the green is pretty bad, ranking at 180th. He isn’t long off the tee, but still has a positive number in SG there.

His approach shots and putting are pretty good, ranking 48th and 36th, respectively. All four combine to make him 59th overall in SG, which is pretty good. Especially for someone ranked so low. It’s going to be a long shot for him to win, but you could still come out pretty well taking him to make the top-20, or even to just make the cut.

Those are my dark horses for the week. Best of luck to everyone who is teeing it up at Muirfield, and here is hoping for a fantastic week at Jack’s Place.
