Canadian Open: Top 10 power rankings at Hamilton G&CC
Rory McIlroy has been open about playing more PGA Tour events and fewer in Europe. One new tournament he can check off is the Canadian Open.
He comes to Hamilton for some more U.S. Open prep after a disappointing missed cut at the Memorial. That can be forgiven as it was his first MC since the 2018 U.S. Open. He hadn’t finished worse than T21 all year!
McIlroy missed by just one and shot 71 on Friday.
McIlroy is lamented for only having one win this year (albeit an impressive one a the Players). That said, he’s been the best player in the world aside from Brooks Koepka and is always in the mix.
His supreme ball striking has led to four top-five finishes and four more top-10s. He was T21 at the Masters and finished tied for eighth at the PGA.
McIlroy ranks second on Tour in total strokes gained and is first in strokes gained tee to green. He’s inside the top 60 in strokes gained around the green and putting but can’t quite heat up enough over the course of four rounds to rack up more wins.
McIlroy is also fifth in strokes gained on approach and should be able to fire away as driver (154th accuracy) won’t be needed too often at Hamilton.
