Can Jordan Spieth scrape it around Pebble Beach well enough to hoist his fourth major trophy?

His ball striking and putting are on opposite ends of the spectrum this Tour season. Spieth ranks third in strokes gained putting and 148th strokes gained tee to green.

The former world No. 1 has struggled to find results in the last year-plus, but a string of three straight top-10s leading in has regenerated some buzz.

Spieth putted out of his mind to finish high (tied for third) at Bethpage, a venue that does not befit his game. He continued with a T8 at Colonial and T7 at the Memorial.

"“I’ve put a lot of work in the game. It’s felt like — it wasn’t like I felt the same standing on the tee January and February as now. It’s totally different,” Spieth said after the Memorial. “And there’s still quite a bit of work to do. I know showing up with essentially B game tee to green, on and around the greens I’ve got it right where I wanted it. In order to get it to A, keep doing the same things, it just needs more reps.”"

Spieth put together a master class to win the 2017 Pebble Beach Pro-Am by four shots. He fired 65-70 at Pebble.

At that event, he’s 7-for-7 making the cut and was inside the top 25 every time until a T45 this year. This course plays into the hands of a not very long hitter with good course management and short game like Spieth.

Spieth has been down in the dumps for a while, but the 25-year-old still has a ton of golf left in him. If not this week, I see him winning another big tournament in the near future.
