Fantasy Golf: DraftKings Selections for the 2019 U.S. Open
By Hans Geevers
Tiger Woods (10,700)
Tiger knows Pebble Beach very well. Tiger won the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble by a record 15 shots. I think Tiger’s strategic ability on a golf course is a distinct advantage at Pebble. Similar to Augusta National, in my opinion, Tiger’s ability to navigate Pebble Beach Golf Links will separate him from the field.
Additionally, Woods will not be defeated by distance off the tee on this course. For example, Bethpage Black was a bomber’s track that clearly favored the likes of Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka. Driving accuracy will be key at Pebble more than driving distance.
Tiger currently leads the PGA Tour in GIR. In 31 rounds played this year Tiger has hit approximately 73% of greens in regulation. That is clearly outstanding.
It should also be noted that Tiger has always been a great putter on Poa greens. Clearly, that is an advantage. You may recall that he is from California and attended Stanford University. I am sure he putted on Poa greens most of his childhood.
In my opinion, Tiger showed definitive signs with his 9th place finish at the Memorial that his missed cut at the PGA Championship is behind him. I fully expect Mr. Woods to play well this week. I am backing him with confidence.
