Patrick Cantlay (10,000)

Patrick Cantlay has been playing some outstanding golf recently. He won the Memorial Tournament in his last event on Tour in impressive fashion. Cantlay’s win moved him to number 8 in the official golf rankings. I think his move into the top 10 in the world illustrates that he belongs in the conversation this week.

I mentioned earlier in this article that I think a golfer’s short game will be highly important on this track. Well, Mr. Cantlay checks that box. Patrick currently ranks number 1 on the PGA Tour in scrambling.

Cantlay is also excelling in multiple other statistical categories this year. He is currently 2nd scoring tee to green and ranks 13th in strokes gained approach on the PGA Tour in 2019. It is hard for me to find data to NOT back Patrick Cantlay for this week’s U.S. Open.

I like the fact that Cantlay has played competitive rounds at Pebble Beach in the past as well. Cantlay has played the AT&T Pro Am event twice previously. Patrick’s previous results at the AT&T Pro Am are a tie for 48th in 2017 and a tie for 35th in 2018.

I know Cantlay has not yet added a major to his resume. However, in my opinion I think he is ready to make that jump to winning a major championship.

A Draftkings strategy to consider for this week’s U.S. Open is to fade the highest priced players in the field and start with Cantlay. Doing so would definitely differentiate your lineup from the majority in Draftkings contests.
