U.S. Open 2019: Bold predictions for the week at Pebble Beach
The U.S. Open brings together a world-class field at an otherworldly course. Here are my bold predictions for the 119th U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
The U.S. Open hits the links of Pebble Beach on Thursday, and it might be one of the most hotly anticipated major championships in recent memory. It makes sense, really. It’s not every week that you have so many superstars seemingly primed to make history, so many remarkable stories that could play out through the weekend, and one of the greatest golf courses of all time to host.
Pebble Beach has hosted the U.S. Open five times already, most recently in 2010. It’s also hosted the PGA Championship (in 1977, won by Lanny Wadkins) as well as, since 1947, the event now known as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. That’s quite a bit of history over the last seven decades, and more is sure to be made this week.
But what will that look like? What twists and turns await the field of 156 players, vying for one of the most coveted titles in all of golf? Well, that’s what I’m here for. By now, you’ve read about the history and the stats. You’ve probably made your own picks, maybe even arguing with your friends and coworkers.
We could play it safe here, but that’s not what this is about. I’m going to go out on a limb here with these four bold predictions for the 2019 U.S. Open. These are all things I believe could happen this week, despite (or in support of!) the best laid plans of many of our intrepid players. Let’s get into it.
